British Airways has introduced a new Student Travel Assistance programme designed specifically for Indian students heading to the UK this academic season. The initiative, launched on August 29, 2025, is available until the end of October across five major Indian airports – Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai.
This service provides students with a dedicated check-in desk, wayfinding support at Indian airports, and guidance for smooth transfers upon arrival at London Heathrow Terminal 5. For many young travelers, moving abroad for studies is their first international journey, and this initiative aims to make the process stress-free and reassuring.
Helen O’Connor, British Airways’ Regional General Manager for Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific Airport, shared:
“We hope this service makes students feel comfortable right from the time they check in to the moment they land in the UK. We’re excited to welcome them on board.”
What Does the Student Assistance Helpdesk Offer?
The Student Assistance Helpdesk is a voluntary programme and open to all students flying with British Airways from India to the UK. To access it, students simply need to identify themselves at the British Airways check-in counter, where signage at the airport will guide them to the helpdesk.
Additional Support for Indian Travelers
Earlier this year, British Airways also rolled out the ‘Meet and Assist’ service for Indian passengers. This programme provides in-person guidance in local Indian languages, especially useful for travelers who need extra help navigating airports.
Growing Student Mobility from India
Indian students continue to form one of the largest international student groups worldwide. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, over 1.33 million Indian students were pursuing higher education overseas as of January 2024. Among global destinations, the UK remains a top choice, thanks to its world-class universities, academic reputation, and strong cultural ties with India.
British Airways’ Commitment to Indian Students
British Airways currently operates 56 weekly flights from India across Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai, connecting thousands of students and families with the UK. The launch of this student-focused initiative highlights the airline’s commitment to making international travel smoother and more welcoming for Indian students as they begin their academic journey abroad.
