New Delhi (PTI) – If you’re planning to go to the United States, here’s an important warning: committing a crime there could get your visa cancelled, and possibly ruin your chances of ever entering the U.S. again.
The U.S. Embassy in India has issued a strong reminder that visa holders involved in crimes like assault, theft, or burglary will not only face legal action but may also have their visa revoked. In serious cases, they could even be declared ineligible for future U.S. visas, meaning a permanent ban from entering the country.
Follow US Laws – It’s Not Optional
In a statement released on their official social media (X), the embassy clearly stated that all foreign visitors are expected to follow U.S. laws. This isn’t just a rule — it’s a strict requirement.
Your Visa Can Be Cancelled at Any Time
This isn’t the first warning. Back on June 19, the embassy had reminded the public that a U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right. Just because a visa has been issued doesn’t mean the U.S. government stops monitoring your activities. If you break the law, your visa can be revoked at any point — even while you’re in the country.
Why the Warning Now?
The warning comes at a time when former U.S. President Donald Trump (currently leading in Republican circles) has once again ramped up efforts to crack down on illegal immigrants and criminal activities. According to the UN Human Rights Office, between January 20 and April 29, over 142,000 people have been removed from the U.S. as part of this campaign.
Legal Consequences Can Be Harsh
In the U.S., even minor crimes like shoplifting can lead to fines, jail time, or both — and the severity depends on which state you’re in. So it’s vital to understand and respect local laws if you’re traveling or staying in America.
Bottom line: If you’re headed to the U.S., stay informed, stay cautious, and follow the rules strictly. One mistake can cost you your visa — or your chance to ever go back.
